A guide dog is often the only alternative for a helper and a best friend for the vision impaired. But acquiring a specially trained dog is no easy task. The Russian guide dog training school produces only 60 dogs a year, operating on government money. People wait years to get a "professional guide." It can even be difficult to get on the waiting list.
