A resource manager dreams of a day when growing corals is as easy as growing a bougainvillea plant on land. Underwater coral nurseries could help maintain the wild populations. Furthering those hopes, Kelly Nedimyer, the daughter of a local marine life collector, galvanizes a group of young divers to cultivate a nursery for Staghorn corals. Staghorn coral is an important reef-building-branching-coral that has seen more than 90% mortality in the last 10 years in the Florida Keys. Part 1.

  • how do i gt involved!!!!,

  • @SROD12321 He is referring to the "staghorn" species, native to the Florida keys, WHICH ARE illegal to harvest from the wild. Sure, other species are not protected, and are imported from many different countries. But these consist of many different species.

Sure, the guy in the video was a bit vague, and he worded his statement somewhat incorrectly. But, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what he meant. That is, of course, if you have a clue what you're talking about.

  • @SROD12321 If you're going to bitch and complain on YouTube, at least make sure you know what you're talking about. The term "staghorn coral" refers to a particular growth pattern, NOT a specific species. In the scientific world, we use latin names, as common names are misleading. For example, SEVERAL species, and EVEN several different genera, are given the common name "staghorn coral", because their growth pattern resembles a stags horns, obviously.

  • good...

  • 4:35-4:40..."This coral is not on the market anywhere in the united states."

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...this is COMPLETELY untrue.

All of the local fish stores around me sell Staghorn coral and I can type in "buy Staghorn coral" on google and end up with 20 US companies offering it for sale.

Last but not least, I own it myself and have sold frags from my own home tank.

Please tell me what the fuck this goof is talking about...

  • Fascinating!
