Koi in the Snow

Here are our koi happily swimming around in the snow last winter. The pond is heated so I guess it was like being in a hot tub for them.

wow amazing! koi can survive in the snow? how can be happen? i thought koi, is a tropical fsh?

I use a Electro pond heater and keep the pond at 14c min during the winter

wonderfull pool,i have 5000 gallon pool with the elecro 3kw heater,what temp do you keep your pool at regards keith

can you help me i have a pond that is 24 inch deep and maybe about 300 gallons and have 12 fish, small koi and goldfish. We are gonna dig it deeper for winter so how deep do you recommend. Do you recommend a deicer too? i live in chicago so it is pretty cold, thanks

@khimlord koi are very hardy cold water fish. there can be a foot of ice and theyll live, just have a hole for gas exchange in the ice. dont feed them at all if the WATER tempratur is below 50, because then the food just sits in their stomachs and may actualy poison them.

koi can live in cold weather.. i have a pond that froze over winter.. they are still alive.

You have some beautiful Koi in there! Nice pond too. Must be expensive to maintain the heat over the whole winter!
