Via Donau

An Ars Electronica Futurelab project from 2001:

Virtual Reality application for the visualization of an inland navigation vessel and its loading procedures for the "via donau" transport development company.

The "Via Donau" CAVE application visualizes the loading and unloading of an inland navigation vessel at a port facility. Video and animation sequences as well as possibilities for interaction were integrated into an informative environment that emphasizes user experience.

The project was part of a promotional campaign aimed at informing the general public about inland navigation and showing that freight transport via ship offers economical and efficient solutions. The application was designed to be displayed on mobile VR systems to further underscore the client's progressive approach.

"Via Donau" was presented at the 5th World Congress of Inland Navigation in Vienna and shown during the European Forum in Alpbach.
