Dog sled competitions held in Volozhin District.

By Yulia Cherginets: 15 sleighs took part in the competitions. 4 dogs are carrying every sleigh. Such races are usually won by fast husky dogs, but big Malamutes also show good speed. At the start the dogs may show the speed of 30 km per hour. At the end of the show all the dogs were collected in one sled. Another aspect of the competitions is the race of skiers together with the dogs.

The first official dogsled race took part in the USA in 1908.

Many dogs attended the race as viewers. Their owners are sure that watching other dogs racing is a good element of taming for them.
