Another live commentary battle from me. The Ptolemaic Egyptians commanded by Xavier Dragnesi (me) face off with the Armenians, led by Asterix in the hills of Cilicia. An interesting and fun game.

Hope you enjoy.

  • Chariots are really cheap.

  • If you listened to what I said at the start of the commentary, I only chose Egypt because my opponent started off chosing Pontus, before he changed. I just didn't notice in time. And I don't think chariots are that cheap unless you spam them, which I don't.

  • what do you press to turn them like that ??

  • If they go into cantabrian circle, they can, if they stay out of it, they can be shot down.

The problem being War elephants, much less armored, are VERY expensive (while Chariot Archers are VERY cheap in terms of denarii) and almost always banned anyway.

  • But elephants can't catch chariots either..

  • If an enemy has no supporting units, elephants would do well - chariots can't use flame arrows, regular arrows don't do much against them, and elephans have both mounted archers and crush chariots in melee, making them able to shoot down chariots outside of canta and smash thsoe which are in canta.

Of course they almost always have archers or phalanxes protecting them and elephants are frequently banned, so...

  • Theres no natural counter to chariot archers. They fire arrows, can use cantabrian circle, which makes archers near useless against them, infantry cannot catch them, and they can defeat most infantry, and can only be caught by cavalry, and they have bonuses against them, and tear them apart, not to mention scare them to lower they're morale. They're rediculous. They're in my opinion, the most unfair unit in the game. Even in small doses.

  • Oh god that's me! How did you pivot your formation like that? I had no idea it was possible.

  • Where would the glory be in that? Hills be damned.

  • Good battle, mate =)
