The Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War or October War, also known as the 1973 Arab-Israeli War and the Fourth Arab-Israeli War, was fought from October 6 to October 26, 1973 by a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria against Israel. The war began with a surprise joint attack by Egypt and Syria on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement. Egypt and Syria crossed the cease-fire lines in the Sinai and Golan Heights, respectively, which had been captured by Israel in 1967 during the Six-Day War.

The Egyptians and Syrians advanced during the first 2448 hours, after which momentum began to swing in Israel's favor. By the second week of the war, the Syrians had been pushed out of the Golan Heights. In the Sinai to the south, the Israelis struck at the seam between two invading Egyptian armies, crossed the Suez Canal (where the old ceasefire line had been), and cut off the Egyptian Third Army just as a United Nations cease-fire came into effect.

The war had far-reaching implications for many nations. The Arab World, which had been humiliated by the lopsided defeat of the Egyptian-Syrian-Jordanian alliance during the Six-Day War, felt psychologically vindicated by its string of victories early in the conflict. This vindication paved the way for the peace process that followed, as well as liberalizations such as Egypt's infitah policy. The Camp David Accords, which came soon after, led to normalized relations between Egypt and Israel—the first time any Arab country had recognized the Israeli state. Egypt, which had already been drifting away from the Soviet Union, then left the Soviet sphere of influence entirely.

  • @ihabihabihab123123 After watching this video and part 4/4, I think Israel is winner, and I am not Jews or Israel supporter, and also not Arab hater. Accept the truth, won is won, lost is lost. Not only Jewish have big nose, even Arab and some European have big nose. Asian have small nose and it doesn't mean the air is not free!!! Don't teach your son lies.

  • @c000ldodo

Realy? when the war began Israel had half the soldiers Egypt had, and one third of all Its enemies.

Egypt had 400 aircrafts, Israel 300. Egypt 2200 tanks, Israel 2100

Israel fought two fronts, so we had less.

you got us by surprise, with the help of Syria, Jordan, Libya, Iraq, Kuwait and Morocco, and yet we kicked your sorry ass back, took sinai away from you, made your president fire your chief of staff, and could have taken your CAPITAL. That's what you call a victory? lame!

  • I love how Fairouz was singing for Syrian and Egyptian troops during the war .So many great emotions were felt back then !.

  • If you are wondering who won the war after watching the video your a jew! and think of it this way who gained and who lost something in the war? Israel was forced to give back the land they stole, so they lost. (little kid asks his dad, "dad why do Jews have BIG noses?, dad says" well son that's cause the air is free.") ;-)

  • MASR!!!!!

  • @Ca1861 It was a wrong move There where these sams protecting the army .the 2 armored division went out of sam rang getting attacked by air strikes and Out numbered by Israeli tanks in defensive positions !.What do you expect?.Even Syrians didn't know about the Egyptian plan in the first place thats why they attacked expecting Egyptian support.

  • @OSARIOUS Once war starts nobody can predict what will happen.

Sadat, to be fair, had to think of things besides strictly military. Assad was probably calling him every 10 minutes, shouting that Egypt must do something to help him.

Argentina had to hold back some of their best troops from the '82 Falklands war because they worried about attack by Chile. So that helped UK.

    Again, not predicted.

Once the killing starts, wherever it is, only Almighty God knows what will happen...

  • @Ca1861 Yes and this was the reason why Israel was able to go between 2nd and 3rd armies and cross the canal.it was the main mistake in the war
