Yeah, felt recoil is reduced somewhat. I think it's most noticeable in double taps/controlled pairs.

last thing you want is to shoot the burglar invading your home, and have the round go through him, and your walls, to kill your neighbor sitting on his porch. The .40 can address that issue through reduced velocity on a heavier load. This is another reason I'm struggling between the extra rounds a S&W .40 platform would provide over the extra 5 hundredths of an inch and few dozen extra grains of weight a .45 auto would offer...

@GodlessMartyr666 True, but at the end shoot placement is more important. Also training with your preferred self defense weapon will avoid shooting through walls, but help you to hit your target.
