Gabe Copeland Tap Dance Reel

Clips from tap dance performances throughout the past several years. Most of them consist of self-choreographed and improvised solos done in the professional company Rhapsody in Taps, under the artistic direction of Linda Sohl-Ellison. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to dance with an amazing group of wonderful musicians in my years with the company.

This reel is meant to represent myself as a tap dancer and performer only.

All costumes and lighting as well as artistic and conceptual designs of all but the last clip are the property of Rhapsody In Taps of which I am truly grateful for their use.

The clip of me and the amazing Bob Carroll dressed in tuxedos is from an acappella piece originally choreographed by the great Foster Johnson and was featured in a Tribute to Foster Johnson arranged by Linda Sohl-Ellison.

Rhapsody In Taps is a Los Angeles based touring company, featuing seven tap dancers, six jazz musicians and guest artists. The modern dance background of Artistic Director/Choreographer, Linda Sohl-Ellison, is reflected in Rhapsody In Taps' diverse repertoire, which pays tribute to the rich heritage of tap as well as exploring innovative choreographic directions for the concert stage. Rhapsody In Taps has been a leader in the tap resurgence that began in the 1980's.

Tap Overload is a rhythm tap performance company under the artistic direction of Mindy Millard Copeland and Gabe Copeland. The company has produced several successful tap concerts with special guest stars such as Dianne Walker, Jason Samuels Smith and Chance Taylor and most recently traveled to China where they were featured on the China Dream TV show. Tap Overload has been an established presence in the Southern California Tap Community since its inception in 2001 with guest performances at various events in the area including the Orange County Tap Festival and Jazz Tap Ensemble Presents: Next Generation Tap.
