Filmed at the Schreiner University Coffehouse Series in celebration of National Poetry Month. Sponsored by the Texas Heritage Music Foundation. Dr. Hudson is a Professor of English at Schreiner University and founder and Executive Director of the Texas Heritage Music Foundation. She is a music historian as well, and has two books out by the University of Texas Press -- Telling Stories, Writing Songs & Women in Texas Music. She also just won a Peabody Award for her efforts in producing the music documentary Whole Lotta Shakin'.

In this clip she talks about having guest artist Thom the World Poet doing a workshop in her class (see related clip on my channel of Thom in class), and reads the piece that resulted from her own participation.

Check out the other short films of poetry performers, including competitors in the Schreiner Slam at milkriverfilm; as well as musical performances at coffeehouses over the past couple of years.

Filmed at Kerrville, Texas, 2 April 2008

Holly Riedel, Executive Producer

  • @sheldonsiedle I like your stream-of-consciousness, but your removal of the spaces does make it kind of hard to read. Something I learned about publications is that guidelines vary greatly, with some literary journals requiring the traditional two spaces after each period, while other ask that only one space be used after each period. Maybe there is one that requires none.

  • Thom the World Poet has a wonderfully textured voice- completely different from what I would have imagined it as, and I've read a number of his poems.
