Tom Cunliffe uses a bow thruster and a simple technique to get a yacht alongside, while the bow is being blown away from the pontoon. For the full article on Bow Thrusters, see the March 2009 issue of Yachting

  • came in far too fast - The crew should be able to step off the boat in their own time once skipper has signalled he is happy the boat is along side. This guy jumped . The bow thruster was a wasted in this manouver - The marina needed to be be more crowded - Then a bowthruster can be useful - However if your gonna charge around the inner marina it is rendered near useless

  • master of the bleeding obvious...

Ps didn't need the bowthruster anyway

  • The bow thruster was rendered irrelevant once the stern line was secured. All the skipper needed to do was power ahead slowly and the boat would have come alongside the dock without a few thousand dollars of bow thruster. There are other situations in which a bow thruster really shines; this isn't one of them.

  • Was the yachting monthly expert the guy not wearing a lifejacket. Tut Tut.

Definition of an expert . x = an unknown quantity, spurt = a drip under pressure.

  • Done it all my life.

  • How stupid...what a waste of money!!!!!!!

  • never NEVER let the crew jump from the boat whilst docking - injuries are very likely - this guy got lucky but it shows just how awkward leaping from a boat to a dock is

  • ...when i was driving boat for the first time,(at eight or nine years old) i dock the ship much better then this "expert"...this is a joke, for the people that sail only on vsk...(nice game :) )
