This is a very sacred dance, is in the same category of dugu, chugu, arumajani, abeimajani, and coropatia... I can't answer it through this mean. Requires me the proper spiritual permission to satisfy your question...If you know a close garifuna he or she might talk to you..good luck friend
As a garifuna,I won't dare to talk on behalf of everybody, but it is fare to say: Wanaragua is a garifuna celebration of survival and triumph over the odds of British invasion in Yurumei in the 1700's. We offer our dance to the world to celebrate with us. Better explanation may be given by another intelligent garifuna. I hope that will help for now.
This is not joncanu. It's Wanaragua. Allow me to explain. Wanaragua is the Warriors Dance. In Yurumei, (St. Vincent island in the Caribbean) Garifuna warriors dressed as women to confuse and fight the enemies of the time. Wanaragua dancers are dressed as women. Instead of the dancer following the drum, the drum follows the dancer. As you can see with the first dancer, at one point he is not satisfied with the drummer and for a moment stops dancing...
