The Statesmen unleash "old camp meeting style" singing on stage at the famous Ryman Auditorium in this 1960 release by Vep Ellis originally entitled, "The Amen Corner." Rosie Rozell pours it on chorus after chorus with the Big Chief pumping and bumping as the choruses roll on. Hovie, the master at priming a crowd keeps things going even teasing the MC when asked for more. Don't you just wish we had more like these guys? Often imitated but never duplicated, here they are, those singers from the South, Brother Hovie Lister and the Sensational Statesmen Quartet!

  • @GospelPhil I'd love to been able to see them. Unfortunately, was too young. I've heard it was amazing to see them live.

  • LOVE the Statesmen. First learned of them from the Gaither videos. They were SO ahead of their time. Just don't find this today.

  • Love it! Miss him everyday!

  • Hovie also teased Rosie about his weight and called him Metracally Rose one time! Saw them numerous times in Memphis at the City Auditorium!

  • LOVE IT!

  • Awesome !

  • Wow! :-)
