I love the Lawman western,but at the end,when Sheree norths man,cowars and dropped his gun,and then proceeded to run and stagger up the street,Why did Burt shoot him in the back?Did I miss something?Then miss it again and again?Is it because burt thought he was going to prevent him from a backshoot attempt?I thought that was cold blooded murder,just the same thing he was coming to arrest them for! Thats the shocking part of the ending.He was originally going to let it all drop

To be that fast and accurate at that distance with a pistol would require reflexes like a cat and hours of practice. But hey, if a lawman was going to survive it's what he had to do. This was harsh, gritty movie and so well acted by Burt. WOW.
