Learn with Sonia how to boil an egg, according to the cooking time and the recipe you need it for, on the cooking tutorial by YellowSaffron!

***

Boiling eggs is a child's play, but according to the cooking time, you can have different preparations. Let's see the main ones:
Before boiling the egg, pierce the rounded end of the shell, to keep from cracking.
Put the eggs in boiling water.
After 4 minutes, the egg is soft-boiled: the yolk is soft and the white is set.
After 8 minutes, the yolk is soft and bright yellow: that's ideal for any dish with hard boiled eggs.
Do not boil the eggs for more than 8 minutes: the yolk would become too hard and greenish.
To cool the egg, dip it quickly in cold water, so you'll stop the cooking process and it will be much easier to shell.

  • I love to cook and can cook just about anything but have never boiled eggs lol! So I am someone who needed this video...thank you! Poke a hole, boil 8 min (I prefer hard boiled), put in ice water immediately after! Easy enough :) My mother used to put vinegar in her water I believe...or maybe that was for poached eggs?

  • @MissCass2482 Yes, it's for poached eggs, to help it hold its shape

  • how would you eat/prepare a soft boiled egg??? I have never had one like that. :)

  • @SimpleLu09 The soft boiled egg is what is called in Europe egg "à la coque": you eat it in a small eggcup by dipping the bread into the yolk

  • Guys, don't laugh, these videos are here cause they matter :D

Boiling eggs for 8 minutes? awesome!

Does the piercing make easter eggs harder?

  • @treanyo The piercing keeps the egg from cracking while boiling

  • This may look so simple, which it is, but for some serious future chefs, especially those who aim to compete (topchef, masterchef, ironchef, etc...), this process will be one of the most important things to learn, and could make or break a career! Thanks for sharing this. :)

  • Loving the intro:)

  • your 8 minutes egg takes 15 minutes on my stove, will try the piercing trick.

  • I wanted to know how do I keep the yolk in the center of the egg!!

  • i love your accent .

  • @sshantobia1 Not claiming you did, but boiling an egg straight from the fridge is different to boiling a room temperature egg.

  • hey she lied about them being perfect i cooked the eggs for 8min. and they were a little raw and still gooey

  • when i was younger i loved soft boiled eggs, and dipping sliced and buttered toast into the yolk.... yum, comfort food!

  • wow i didn't know piercing the end of the shell would keep them from cracking! thanks for sharing!!! :D

  • Have you tried the egg timer's? You put them in the pot with your eggs and they tell you if they are soft, medium, or hard boiled. I think they only run around $5. Also instead of piercing the egg can you use olive oil in the water to stop it from cracking?

  • @yellowsaffron I didn't know this.... and to think this is how I ate them like this all along! I refer to this video when people tell me I'm wrong for cooking them like I do.

  • I like the soft boiled eggs they are great with toast.
