Dancing for Mr B - Six Balanchine Ballerinas.

Maria Tallchief, Mary Ellen Moylan, Melissa Hayden, Allegra Kent, Merrill Ashley and Darci Kistler discuss their time spent dancing for George Balanchine.

Even after the death of the great choreographer and ballet master George Balanchine, the legacy of his beautiful ballets and teh striving for perfection he instilled in his dancers lives on.
This documentary celebrates six of Balanchine's ballerinas: Mary Ellen Moylan, Maria Tallchief, Melissa Hayden, Allegra Kent, Merrill Ashley and Darci Kistler, and shows them keeping alive the ballets and the inspiration they learned from him. For all of them, Balanchine was the single most powerful influence in their lives.
These ballerinas, along with Suzanne Farrell, Tanaquil le Clerq and Diana Adams, are seen in a feast of excerpts of Balanchine ballets including: Concerto Barocco, Serenade, Symphony in C, Firebird, Stars and Stripes, ballo Della Regina, Chaconne, Agon, Four Temperaments, Apollo and Scotch Symphony

  • I did a report on Maria Tallchoef! In school

  • Gloria Govrin a Balachine Dancer is my teacher!!!

  • what is this documentary called? I'd really like to watch it!

  • Wow! This video really did inspire a lot of people

  • @tutugirl4life and any others wondering about Suzanne Farrell. Not sure if you know, but she has her own biographical film; Elusive Muse. It is beautiful and well worth purchasing. It has extraordinary clips of her dancing that you cannot watch anywhere else.

  • Darci Kislter is so adorable!

  • Heather Watts was flawless but it is so hard to find any film of her dancing and I agree Mr. B was the greatest choreographer that ever lived! He was a genius that is unmatched in any art form! However his infatuation with Susan Farrel must have been strictly sexual because I fail to see her talent compared to others at NYCB

  • anyone else automatically raise their hand in front of their face at the end 0:46?

  • @tutugirl4life the first thing that came to my head, she was his most beautiful creation!

  • @aoc36 Please don't call a great artist 'a twit,' it's so disrespectful. Ms Farrell is not obliged to bare her soul for anyone. I respect her for it.
