  • Curious, for all 5 "versions" - "Makarova's", "Malakhov's", "Nureev's" and "Grogorovich'" kept not "some", but most of Petipa choreography. I'd say they stole rather than kept Petipa's choreography if we are to call thing by their names and refrain from using euphemism.

  • You may call it as you like but without these creators we may see nothing from Petipa! In Russia the name of Petipa always is mentionned in the credits of La Bayadere. But I consider here no convenience for discussing the contribution of each choreographer to the ballet.

  • Impressive dancing. Although it is not Grigorovich who is the author of the choreography.

  • Certainly Golden Idol dance was created by Zubkovsky for the Kirov ballet, but this video is from the Grigorovich's version of La Bayadere. Grigorovich kept Zubkovsky original choreography.

  • If Grigorovich kept Zubkovsky number, then he must have also kept Petipa choreography, did he not? An d if so, how it is, may I ask "Grigorovich" version?

  • May be you know other versions of La Bayadere have Golden Idol dance (Makarova's, Nureyev's, Malakhov's and so on) and they have also some Petipa choreography (for example The Shadows). When we say "Version" we mean certain choreographer's edition. More over when Sergey Vikharev reconstructed 1900' Petipa's La Bayadere for Mariinsky ballet firstly he kept Zubkovsky number and some more late numbers. However Vikharev canceled The Golden Idol dance about month after the premier.

  • @FredricEric the turning section is more impressive ,the rest is the same.better performer of that version kumakawa and johan renvall

  • @divannaru why canceled the idol ?hate it.saw vikharev whe still student at the last year at accademy, was av very good dancer already.

  • The Makarova idol variation is much stronger and much more beautiful. These young boys are bad taste.

  • Это не Антонов,а Янин!

  • I have films of both the 1900 reconstruction and the 1941 version as danced @ the Mariinsky. Although the 1941 version is revised, the choreography was kept rather accurate in many places. Ive written a detailed history of BAYADERE on wikipedia.

  • I posted this for another clip - history of the golden idol - originally called "Bazhok" or "Little god" in Russia. Interpolated by Nikolai Zubkovsky in 1948 into the Kirovs 1941 revival of BAYADERE. The music is by Minkus, in an edit by Pavel Feldt. It is "The Persian March" he added to Petipas 1870 revival of Taglioni's "Le Papillon". The music as heard here is in Lanchbery's adaption

  • "without these creators"... Thieves more like it. And every one of them was from Russia
