When asked what tips he has for entrepreneurs, Scott Case, the CEO of the Startup America Partnership, technologist, and founding CTO of Priceline says, "The number one is focus, number two is focus, and the third one is focus." In this HP Startup Central Tips for Entrepreneurs episode, Scott Case urges startups to "Focus, Focus, Focus"—while it often is against their nature, this is the single piece of advice he believes is the most critical.

An entrepreneur and inventor himself, Case finds that most entrepreneurs are "idea-aholics"—they constantly go after different inspirations and lose sight of their core business objectives. He says, "The challenge for entrepreneurs is to strip away everything but the core and get that business really humming.... Focus, focus, focus." Case believes that truly passionate and driven entrepreneurs, regardless of their exact skills, can create a company and attain success. However, it's important to leverage the best abilities that you do have to apply them in your business model. Case recalls the advice he received from his father, who encouraged him to get an engineering degree—skills in this field and other scientific disciplines are advantageous because they instill a problem-solving mindset. Case emphasizes that entrepreneurs are, "Problem-solving machines. We identify issues and we create value for others and we attack it."

As the CEO of the Startup America Partnership, Scott Case works daily to help and inspire entrepreneurs and the people that work with them. He attributes America's growth and foundation to the efforts of these innovators. Not only that, he feels that there's still a great opportunity for the United States to step things up. "Now it's our turn to set the bar higher again and to really represent leadership in the world for entrepreneurship and for building new companies and creating startups."

  • - Very true. There are only 400 ideas that hit my brain every day. It is definitely hard to keep tunnel vision with an entrepreneurial mindset.
