ANCHOR:
In Spain, the early release of convicted murderer Jose Ignacio de Juana Chaos outraged some Spaniards over the weekend. Ignacio had been part of the ETA terrorist organization, and groups representing the victims of ETA attacks are furious. ETA has killed more than 800 people over the past 40 years in a campaign for Basque independence from Spain.
STORY:
The wife, in the green shirt, of one of Spain's most notorious ETA militants arriving at a prison outside Madrid to take her husband home.
They were allowed to wed while Jose Ignacio de Juana Chaos - in the white shirt - was doing time for murdering 25 people as part of an ETA commando team in the 1980s.
He was sentenced to 3000 years. But he's out after just 21 - freed on good behavior in accordance with the penal code at the time of his conviction.
Victims' rights groups are furious. There are reports the couple plan to live in the Basque seaside city of San Sebastian on the same street as families of those targeted in ETA shootings and bombings.
The opposition calls his release a source of national shame. The prime minister has voiced his "contempt" for the former prisoner but says the law must be respected.
After blaming ETA for the deadly bombing of Madrid airport in 2006, the government broke off attempted peace talks.
ETA has killed more than 800 people over its four-decade campaign for an independent Basque homeland.
The release of de Juana Chaos comes on the 40th anniversary of ETA's first killing - a policeman in San Sebastian - where victims groups plan demonstrations.
