The painted turtle — one of the most common turtles in DuPage forest preserves — lives in riparian and wetland habitats. This turtle often basks in the sun, and it may be found on logs and rocks or along exposed banks and shores. The turtle's neck, legs and tail feature yellow and red stripes. This painted turtle is used in educational programs about native wildlife at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. It is handled by naturalist Kevin Luby. Willowbrook is owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
