"Waqt" (Hindi: वक़्त, Urdu: وقت) is a 1965 Indian film directed by Yash Chopra. It made it onto the BFI's long list of films in consideration for their top ten of Indian films award. It was produced by B.R. Chopra and starred an ensemble cast including Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Madan Puri, Sharmila Tagore, Balraj Sahni, Achala Sachdev and Rehman.

Music is by Ravi and lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi.

It pioneered the concept of films with multiple stars, starting a trend followed by other films. The film took the top spot at the box office in 1965. The plot of this movie pioneered the lost and reunite formula in Bollywood. A happy family separated by Waqt (time), goes through a series of trials trying to reunite. The film was later remade into the Telugu film Bhale Abbayilu (1969).

The film contains the popular Hindi song Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu sung by Asha Bhosle, besides the famous Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen, sung by Manna Dey and composed by Ravi and picturised on Balraj Sahni and Achala Sachdev. Waqt also showcases some of the top dialogues in the history of Bollywood movies. Raaj Kumar's Jinke apne ghar sheeshay ke hon, woh dusron par pathar nahi phenka karte (Those whose own houses are made of glass do not throw stones at others) and Yeh bachon ke khelne ki cheez nahi, haath kat jaye toh khoon nikal aata hai (This is not a child's plaything. If the hand is slashed, blood oozes out) are remembered even today.

Asha Bhosle (Marathi: आशा भोंसले) (born September 8, 1933) is an Indian singer. She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a much wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 1000 Bollywood movies and sold many records. She is the sister of the equally accomplished Lata Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle has won seven Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards out of 18 nominations. She won her first two awards in 1967 and 1968, when Lata Mangeshkar still used to accept the award (Mangeshkar asked not to be considered for the award nominations after 1969 to promote new talent). After receiving the award in 1979, Bhosle emulated her elder sister and requested that her name not be considered for the nominations hereafter. Despite this, Bhosle is the most frequent winner of this award to date, tying with Alka Yagnik.

Asha Bhosle received Padma Vibhushan from President Pratibha Patil on Monday May 5, 2008.

  • Beautiful song. My Dad loves this song.

  • I've memorized EVERY made in this song by Sadhna. I love EVERYTHING about that song. From her saree to, jewelry, flower basket, curtain that she pull aside, carpet, her graceful step down, her pallu spread out on red carpet, hand movement on the piano key board, face expression, body language. As a teenager I was mesmerized by this song and 30+ years later I still am.Whenever I listen to this song I can picture her every move till d end where she swings her chair n faces Raj.

  • Graceful that's what comes to mind whenever SadhanaJi name is mentioned. "Nikla Na Karu Tum Saz Dhaz K ~ K Imaan ke Niyat Thik Nahi" WOW...!! Sach main every word of this song match her beauty.

  • a song so fresh and romantic representative of an era which we are missing the most .
