FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Marginal
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Poor Good Good Good Good Poor

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 were redesigned during the 1999 model year (the previous design extended into the early 1999 model year). The Classic nameplate was added in the 2007 model year to distinguish what effectively are carryover 2006 models from the redesigned 2007 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500.

Note: These ratings do NOT apply to the redesigned 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, its head dropped down below the window sill. Then the head rebounded upward and hit the shoulder belt housing, which is mounted directly to the seat back. There was far too much upward movement of the steering wheel. Also, the driver seat came loose on one of its tracks and moved rearward slightly on the right side, where the safety belt buckle is anchored.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the belt housing hit was low.

  • The 2004 Ford F-150 got good and a top safety pick... Three years later a chevy silverado only gets marginal...

  • @shoo2111 Yeah, but a rollover is more severe than a frontal crash in my opinion. Also, the F150 takes alot of the force and alot of the plastic falls off, it really looks worse than it is. BTW thanks haha

  • @nonamejoe56 rolling is different than crashing into a wall, but I'm glad your alive. btw I like your videos.

  • @shoo2111 Hey! I rolled my f150, and I'm still here...

  • take a look at what happens to the 2001 ford f150 and the 2001 dodge ram 1500. YOU DECIDE,

  • This would be like crashing into a brick building. Notice how the barrier doesnt move at all? Real world applications, most things will move with the impact. There is so much energy and force going into the truck because the barrier is rock solid, bolted down. Either way, I love my chevy

  • Now you can see that driving truck does not make you tougher but gay!!!!

  • @CrashJSTest

My Toyota Hilux sucked, the turbo self-destructed after only 75,000km, the brakes gave out and the cost of replacing them gave me enough reason to scrap the truck for metal. Then my uncle sold me a 1983 K5 Blazer with a 6.2L diesel the only thing that ever malfunctioned on mine was the alternator which was peanuts to replace. I also upgraded from a Dana 44 to a Dana 60 and added dually wheels on it (along with the fenders) To be honest, the Blazer was a lot better than the Hilux.
