Vince Vaughn spoke out after the promotional trailer for his new comedy "The Dilemma" was attacked for its use of the term "gay."

CNN journalists Anderson Cooper led protests against Vaughn's line, "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars... are gay", when he appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show earlier this month.

Cooper argued that the use of the word wasn't PC, and it should be eliminated for its pejorative use.

The backlash against the trailer has led to executives at Universal Pictures promising to replace the trailer.

However, Vaughn decided to voice his take on the subject with the following, "Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences, whatever those differences may be. Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together. Drawing divided lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop?"

  • Her last name makes me giggle... Duffy! And she's cute.

  • @963852art but thats what makes jokes funny

  • @osubuckeyes65 You don't get the point, in this instance gay is used as a putdown and an insult. I support AC on this.

  • People really need a sense of humor and besides electric cars really are gay

  • People like Anderson Cooper do not find this funny because, at this time, gay people are fighting for a lot right now. When we hear the word gay being used to mean something negative or disgusting, it doesn't help us win our daily battles. It's kind of like the "N" word. Before blacks were given equal rights, how do you think it would have made them feel to hear people them use the "N" word to mean something degrading, while at the same time they are trying to achieve appreciation and respect.

  • Who care is only a joke about those electric cars , agree 100% with Vince comment and Who the hell is Anderson cooper to protests about movie in Hollywood he is only a news guy .....

  • @barnettckt I sincerely doubt that you have a single gay friend, let alone one who found this joke hilarious. Yes, I am flat out calling you a liar.

  • anderson cooper should be embarassed for acting like a child. smh don't be such a pussy, the world is seriously falling apart with these sensitive people.

  • omg u guys fucking disgusting
