Welcome to the first of three reviews from Metalder's Ghost Bank Series (ゴーストバンクシリーズ). Up for review today is Ghost Bank Series 1: Metalder & Springer (ゴーストバンクシリーズ1: メタルダー&スプリンガー).
There is really no other figure this series could've started out with. Metalder is the main character of the series. The inclusion of Metalder's helper dog, Springer, was a nice inclusion since Metalder really didn't have the need for accessories. In truth, the Ghost Bank Series is probably the widest range of figures in any Tokusatsu toy line. There are 20+ figures, playsets, and vehicles in the Ghost Bank Series including the Ghost Bank itself!
Enough of that though, i'm just going to talk about the first volume today.
Metalder & Springer is great start to this wide series. The paint job on Metalder is wonderful considering the size of the figure (about three inches). Springer isn't so great, but you have to consider him as more of an accessory that a whole figure. In all, Metalder looks great and actually fits his vehicles quite well after a bit of searching for the best pose.
It's a great start to the Ghost Bank Series. Bandai put a lot of work into a figure so small.
VR Troopers hit American airwaves six years after Metalder ended. Rather than Bandai America taking the reign and importing the Ghost Bank Series (which would've left Spielban toys in the dark) Kenner (Hasbro) created a new line of toys for VR Troopers to iron the seem between Metalder and Spielban toys. While some of the figures were quite good in the VR Troopers line, accessories and vehicles left quite a bit to be desired. If you spot VR Trooper figures for sale, i'd say go ahead and get them. Just avoid the horrible repaint ones (Gold, Red, Blue Metalder?? ...the hell?)

I remember having this as a kid back in 1987 when my parents took me to Japan. We went to Disneyland and my mom bought this Metalder figurine for me. I also bought a doraemon alarm clock, a metalder handbag and pair of vinyl karmen raider black chopsticks. However I lost that figure a long time ago... This brings back a lot of fond childhood memories!

Nice review! I still have this toy, but my Metalder is a bit battle ravaged. A few of the villains are in even worse shape -- Coolgin's missing his mask, and he looks stupid underneath his mask.
One thing that always pissed me off about the Ghostbank series: the commercials for the Ghostbank shows a little Godneros sitting in his throne, but the actual set doesn't have a Godneros. False advertising!

Thanks man! My Side Phantom is kinda beat. : ( I trudged on and made a review for it anyway.
I wish I had some of the villains. Seems like most toy lines have zero villains while the ones that do like Metalder and Gogo Five get shuffled aside.
Totally agree about the Ghostbank lacking Godneros. Bandai misrepresented just about every toy in this line. The Metal Charger on the box looks nothing like the actual toy.

Another great review! Really takes me back! Was just wondering what you thought of the Bandai SIC figures?

Thanks!
Not really a fan of action figures outside of old school Chogokin figures or interesting ones like Metalder.
