  • @redhead60707 Age of Autism promotes the anti-vaccine propaganda. No link between mmr/thimerosal and autism.

  • The leading hypothesis concerning the Somalis is Vitamin D deficiency, as outside of Northern climes, there has not been a such a solid grouping despite large Somali groups. There is also the issue of how accurate the population models are for that particular segment because it is a very fluid population.

  • Age of Autism--gives all of the current news and research--like the Somalis in Minnesota

(google -age autism Somalis) and the high rates of autism. Vaccines are being discussed as a common theme.

  • Age of Autism is a very suspect source. The facts I present are accurate, whether you disagree with my opinions.

I hope research into other causes turns out more productively and I hope you will keep your own research as up to date as possible.

  • Well, we will have to agree to disagree as I don't want to go back and forth but your facts and opinion on this are just not accurate.

for any readers here, check out Age of Autism for a daily dose of reality--

  • Except that it hasn't been proven conclusively or causally linked to Hg or vaccine. The amount of Hg in a thimerosal vaccine is negligible even in a fully loaded vaccine, not to mention that there are thim. free forms of every vaccine save Jap. Enceph. There arent LARGE amounts of Hg or Al in vaccines. Other exposure is CERTAINLY greater.

Lowered GSH is plausible as a cause of autism, but that doesn't make a causal connection to vaccines. As stated, there are many things that could cause it.

  • Wait, after all this about mercury, tylenol,/MMR, metals (aluminum)etc- you want to deny vaccines can be included?--Thimerosal-yes full blown in flu shot and trace in others and LARGE amounts of aluminum....and we are past wondering IF GSH is lower in autism..it IS.

  • DMPS and N-acetylcysteine induced renal toxicity in mice exposed to mercury. Brandao (2006 Biometals) Not technically about GSH but closely related and I think NAC is used in some therapies.

The issue here is we know GSH is important in maintaining a healthy immune system, but we don't know exactly why or how to get it into the system usefully. IF indeed lowered GSH levels are linked to autism, it may be tied to something more exogenic than vac, which even if compounding aren't likely a cause.

  • yes-

University of California, San Diego - 2008 Researchers from this school published a preliminary study in the journal Autism stating that children given Tylenol after the MMR vaccine were several times more likely to develop autism. Tylenol can reduce levels of glutathione - a powerful antioxidant and detoxifier. "Tylenol and MMR was significantly associated with autistic disorder," the authors wrote. "More research needs to be completed to confirm the results of this preliminary study."

  • It is remarkably difficult to find the journal articles because there are so many blogs and health sites trying to sell the product.

    Here is another I found:

Aphosian (2003) Vitamin C, glutathione, or lipoic acid did not decrease brain or kidney mercury in rats exposed to mercury vapor.
