I don't know if this works in PS, but the trick I use to make the flats faster is just to go around the outside of the area with a small brush and then bucket fill. If you use a soft edge, you'll need to around the edge a second time to tidy it up, but it'll still be faster for big areas.
I never thought about doing it like that...Might give it a go next time I'm colouring. Thanks for the tip :D
