@MattDurden Hmm, then he was just bluffing, because for MSN to work in Pidgin it's necessary to use a SSL library. But it has an encryption plugin inside. Maybe this plugin was the real need.

@xRHYDDERCHx use cain to poison other computers then connect to them just like you would localy

@xRHYDDERCHx what a situation

@xRHYDDERCHx he probably did that with a MITM attack and ARP poisoning, then captured the packets of your IM chats with wireshark. It's not that simple to prevent it, since he is in your own network. Only data you send over using SSL protocols (email, online banking, etc) are secure. The non-cryptographic data sent over your LAN can be captured. This is also why we have digital certificates. My advice is: analyze your traffic. hope that helped. Also be careful with self signed certificates

@indeepnight Our notebooks are connected to our dad's PC (who "owns" the connection), more specifically the ROUTER. She uses WLM, and I use emesene or Pidgin.
Already tried this SimpLite but seems to work just if the other person has the software installed. I'll try to do that next day I go to my gf's house ;) so I come back here to say if it works or not hehehe
Thanks!

good job
But you sniffed your own PC. How can I sniff other PC in my network? Or, what's more of my interest, how to PROTECT my MSN from someone of my network (actually, the computer which shares the connection) sniffing? I use emesene, on Linux. My dad says he has access to what me and my sister write on MSN and I got problems with my girlfriend because of that. He wouldn't say how he done it or show if he really can do that! If someone knows the trick, please help me!
