General Motors has introduced the world's first front center air bag which will debut on the 2013 Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse.

Created to reduce injuries in side impact crashes, the air bag deploys from the driver's seat and positions itself above the center console. This helps to keep occupants restrained while providing a protective cushion between the driver and front passenger.

According to Gay Kent, GM's executive director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness, "While no restraint technology can address all body regions or all potential injuries, the front center air bag is designed to work with the other air bags and safety belts in the vehicles to collectively deliver an even more comprehensive occupant restraint system."

  • Yea don't see a dif

  • I'm not convinced this is that much better, really. It's only a marginal improvement.

  • @killerbng HAHA never said they were perfect but hey things break now and cost alot LOL but still pop up head lamps probably my favorite thing on any car especially the NSX :D....

  • @FalkataSports idk if I would want em back, I knew some1 about 5-6 yrs ago who had a FORD(puke) and it had the automatic seatbelt and when it broke it had to be fix to be inspected and it cost her about $900......I dont think thats worth saving 2 secs to put "both" belts on :P

  • @onionofdeath That is one of the downfalls but very entertaining LOL but I would honestly like to see what they could do with them in this day and age!!!

  • @FalkataSports I'm only 25, and I certainly remember those cars, rode in quite a few of them :) Pop up lights are cool until the lifting mechanism fails, then your cars winks! lol

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L Well in early 90's you sat in the seat and shut the door and the belt went over you automatically you had to belt the bottom one but it got the belt outta the way and it was neat lol!!!

  • @FalkataSports Auto seat belts? explain :)
