why is everyone so up-in-arms at this guy striking the mouth? hell, most clay pot drums are made JUST for that purpose. this is no major offense, it's not like he's playing tablas with drumsticks or anything.

What does rock and roll have to do with real guitar playing, since the guitar was not originally developed to play rock and roll? Traditional instruments have their place with "pure" music, but music evolves by recombining traditional sounds and using instruments in ways for which they were not originally intended. Like the cajon in Flamenco music, for example.
