@elliotnicklin Thanks! Yeah, I don't know all that much about her either yet I knew everything that was brought up in the film. It needed much more depth.

@MatthewRossColeman Yeah, I think it is worth seeing if only for the performances. I'm with you when it comes to Margaret Thatcher and I feel a little bit robbed of the chance to spend 100 mins of focused anger on her.

@questionsleadtotruth Yeah, there's definitely no history lesson here haha. Renting it would be the best way to go about it - that way you can fastforward through all the pointless bits.

You're wonderfully articulate, glad you're getting some recognition here. Wonderful review, shan't be seeing it now that I know it's not solely about the politics as that's what I'd like to take from a film of her life; probably because it was before my time and I have no idea what people are talking about half the time when she comes up in conversation. Thanks a lot. :)
That was a perfect reasoning of why the makers avoided the actual political story of how she came to power and what she did. The film felt very half baked because of that. Less than half baked actually. What's funny is that trying to make people sympathetic towards Thatcher is asking too much for everyone that hates her, which is a huge part of the UK as far as I know

@andresbv18 Yeah, it's too much to ask people to feel sympathy for her, they would have been better giving an honest account of her and allowing people to form their own opinions.

Yeah, I don't like the elderly person with dementia trope. It's patronizing and feels like an exploration of power that has suddenly become powerless ::rolling eyes:: which is a trite screenplay structure. I've always been divided by Margaret Thatcher. Granted I'm in the US but... On the one hand, I'm all for working class folks sticking it to upperclass types. But, her politics was...ugh. I would've liked to see her life and work told in a straightorward manner.Great review.

@scifiwritir1 I'm from a working class background so there is a lot of anti-Thatcher sentiment in my family. I would have liked the film to have more information regarding her politics so that I can form my own opinion of her but that isn't what this film is at all. It has made me want to read up on her though. You're right that it's patronising, she would hate this film.

Meryl Streep gave a great performance, but the movie was like watching paint dry. The only section that really pulled me in was the Falklands War part. The elderly man behind me in the theater started snoring at one point!

@colaguy29229 Yes, the brief moment of tension when she was deciding whether or not to blow up the ship was great. It's a shame they moved on so quickly after that. That guy probably had a better time napping than either of us watching the film!
