Definitely and objectively is Pelé, because he had and did what Maradona couldn't and he has all the numbers to confirm it. "Almosts" are excuses.

Pele is becoming a bit of a joke with all his comments. Slandering messi and championing brazilian players and himself. Come on anyone who knows anything about football can see messi is the best ever. Saying you have to do it at a world cup is ridicilous, a worked cup is 7 games every 4 years, messi does it week in week out to a level pele never could. Big deal he scored alot of goals in the brazilian league, so could messi.

@IAMCANADIAN1998 Don't be stupid. There was a packed stadium of both sets of fans, players from both teams, officials, newspaper men and radio commentary. Trying to discredit his achievements shows how insecure you are. Pele was not a cheat, unlike another number 10. You can stay living in denial, but legends like Puskas, Platini, Bobby Moore, Rivelino (Maradona's idol) and Beckenbauer just to name a few, all state emphatically that Pele is the greatest player of alltime.

In 1985 it was still possible to win Serie A by simply knuckling down and defending the box, which was Verona to a tee. They were extraordinarily well-coached, which is how they managed to beat the likes of Juve, Udinese, etc. Serie A was stuck in the 60s, and a lot of contenders spent the season in transition. By the end of the decade the landscape had completely changed, Milan's Dutchmen and Arrigo Sacchi, Baggio, Maradona, etc. dragged it into the modern era, and attack won championships.

@THEWARDSTER lol. You'd struggle pretty hard to find a league at ANY time that was stronger than Serie A in the late 80s & early 90s. 'I sette sorelle', Juve, Milan, Inter, Napoli, Fiorentina, Samp/Parma and Roma, all were contenders for the title, which is absolutely ridiculous. Italy was dominant on the international stage, winning in 82, 3rd in 90, 2nd in 94, and at the time every league limited its foreign players. Italy's was by far the strongest league at the time, anyone will agree.

Actually Di Napoli, Bagni, Alameo, Ferrera and Careca were all great players. Theres 5 players who had 40+ caps for Brazil and Italy. You have to be a great player to have this many caps.

Verona had far fewer star players when they won the League. Pretty much a team of 5-10 cap Italians, and 2 foreigners Elkjaer.

The Italian League was limited to 2 or 3 Foreign players so wasn't a strong League.
