Chien-Sifu took some of the Chien Wing Chun senior students down to Kyushu from Tokyo for a hands on seminar with the Jeet Kune Do club there, the teacher of which was a long-term student of Chien-Sifu. In the video Chien-Sifu is the funky looking Chinese gentleman in the blue uniform. The JKD teacher is the one who looks like a cross between a Japanese Elvis and Bruce Lee. Some of the footage looks nice with Chien-Sifu practising Chi Sao with the JKD students in the background and me doing the same in the foreground.

  • That's odd, darkside1999. The "tall fella on the left" is me and I've never studied JKD. All of the other guys except one, though, are JKD students. So I guessed you guessed wrong. Sorry you think my big arms are crap. It's not realistic to be dainty when you're 100kg, but perhaps you'll like video 4. in my channel which is more technical. And finally, understand that this vid shows a Wing Chun sensitivity exercise, so sticking in a back fist, like throwing a hook, would be a bit dumb. Cheers.

  • Nice Vid? whats your sifus name? I always wanted to train JKD but theirs no master on the big Island of Hawaii here.... Im a big Bruce Lee fan and always wanted to train! You are doing good in JKD by watching this clip... Some mistakes but you always keep training to get better at it! I trained in Boxing Kickboxing jiu-jitsu and muay thai! But my main goal is to train with the best in JKD like danny inosanto or ted wong or even taky Kimura...

  • Hi Romanticme24. My Sifu's name is Chien Yen. He's Taiwanese but teaches out of Tokyo. Chien-Sifu is a senior student of Grandmaster Yip Man's Nephew Lo Man Kam. Thanks for your kind words about my being good at JKD but the truth is my JKD sucks 'cause I've never studied it formerly. I'm all about Wing Chun and Muay Thai. After 2 years I recently left my Muay Thai gym and will join a top BBJ dojo next month. After 25 years of stand-up I need to round out my game with some solid ground work.

  • Hey, I dig your goal to train with the best in JKD. Here's a tip from Ted Wong, who I did an intensive weekend seminar with in Tokyo some years ago. I asked, "Sifu Ted, for those of us who don't study JKD formally, what is the single most important thing you can tell us that we can take away from this weekend?" He thought for a moment, then looked me in the eye and said a single word. "Speed !" How cool is that !

  • That is so cool! I need to work on my speed more, but my power is above average right now. I have a fight for boxing in hawaii in January and trying my best to develope more speed! Any great advise?

  • For speed, Ted Wong told us to imagine our knuckles "appearing" on the opponent's chin, with no transition from start to stop. I've used this concept of imagining my fist appearing on the target, instead of simply moving from position A to position B, in a couple? of street fights with good success. Give it a try. And good luck for your upcoming fight, brother!

  • @FOURasONE Thank you! you gave me good pointers and I will use it! Thanks brother! I will do good in my fight and keep it up!

  • WOW! Yip Man's Nephew? Now thats a true master! All respects to Chien Yen! I tried wing-chun with this guy name chris who teaches MMA (MANA MARTIAL ARTS) and its actually pretty good... Chris said I was doing very good against his students... and wanted to test me blind folded... I didnt do so well...
