When the chicks hatch, they squeak which triggers the Mum's feeding instinct. Mum will then produce what is called 'crop milk' and will feed that to the chicks for about a week. After that she will regurtate partially digested seeds, grasses and bugs (dad helps out here by doing the same).
After 3 - 4 weeks, Mum & Dad encourage the bub to leave the nest and teach it what seeds to crack, plants and bugs to eat, and feed itself!

She is protecting her eggs even though she knows who you are it is a natural instinct for a mother to protect her babies.

damn mine was doing the same i wanted to check on the eggs in the nest and she flew onto my hand and she was screaming like hell!!! and then later i was watching them and her mate scotti went down to check on her and she bit him and started screaming it was soooo annoying

the bird is actually calling out for help from it's mate. if the male bird were around it would attack whatever is bugging the mom. i've seen it happen with my 2 parakeets hahahah

the parakeet mom is going to kill you. She is making that angry screeching noise. Kind of like my female parakeet when they see something very very dark in color.
