My all time favorite movie. GREAT music to boot!

I am 47 years old, and I am ashamed to say I have only just watched The Sting!
Absolutely fantastic!! Loved it!

@OperaMystery80 The film is set in 1938, but the ragtime music was indeed more popular in the 1900's. George Roy Hill (director) and Marvin Hamlisch (composer/adapter) decided that most audiences of the 1970's wouldn't catch or care about this fact. What mattered more was the tongue-in-cheek mood set by the music. Personally I think it was a great choice!

Maybe the best film and soundtrack of all time.
Always watched it with my Grandad. Happy times.

@OperaMystery80 The opening scene in the movie very clearly states it takes place in September 1936. But Scott Joplin's ragtime music prevailed in the 1900's.

What period is it in this film ? If this is supposed to be the turn of the century 1900 through 1912 I don't think they did a good job of representing that period. The clothes look more like fashions of the 20's and 30's. This has more of a Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald novel feel. Robert Redford was also in The Great Gatsby and the costumes he wears look the same in both films

Amazing acting and seriously like two of the sexiest guys you will ever see. I'm surprised the whole set didn't just burst into flames from their combined awesomeness.
both great. Legends. These guys make Clooney, Pitt, Damon etc look like nerds

I like Scott Joplin's Pineapple Rag played a tad more slowly in the first section. It can be very melancholy and nostalgic in feeling when played in a moderate walking pace. The energy picks up in the middle and it becomes upbeat but then again slows down and ends. Most people play this piece really fast like in this movie, doesn't work for me!
