Oscar was a band from Manchester, England. While touring Turkey in the 1970s, playing at top secret US bases in remote parts of the country, the band disappeared. All that was found was their abandoned van, close to Mount Ararat near the Turkish Armenian border. It must be remembered that Mount Ararat is the fabled resting place of Noah's Ark. All hope of finding them faded, until in 2005 a young goat herd found a bag inside an ancient cave halfway up the mountain. The bag contained an old style British passport, toiletries and a super 8mm cine camera with a movie film inside. When the film was processed by the authorities, a subsequent search found all five band members apparently asleep deep inside the cave. The peculiar thing was that despite the fact that they had been missing for 30 years, there were no apparent signs of ageing. It appears that while exploring the cave on the way to the next gig, the band had been overcome by a rare gas seeping through fissures in the rocks. Scientists say that their metabolism was slowed down to almost zero, and the gas had a sort of cryogenic preserving effect. When the band members recovered in a top secret US Military hospital in Ankara, they returned to England to find that they have children who are older than themselves. The question is, will the ageing process catch up, or will they forever remain the Dorian Grays of rock? You can see the band before their disappearance, in this 1970s TV clip.
