I do not use my energy to think about where Rumi originally came from. Instead, I use my energy to absorb his teachings and apply them to my life.

Can everyone just realize that Rumi belongs to all humanity. This identity politics is sickening.

@ Eluesha
It is not just to brand Rumi as one who rejected Islam. At later years of his life he was filled with love. The love of the Almighty. You need to know Rumi to understand his path. He was not like a flake of hay on the water.
Go deeper in Rumi's thoughts and forget politics!

@Eleusha Study "Tassawaf/Sufism" and you may understand his state from his poetry! Context is important brother! :)

@Zartosht777 For that you have to understand Sufism! Where he(ra) says that he(ra) doesn't belong to anything, speaks of a state that overtakes the Sufis, called "Jazb" or "Fana Fil Haqq" ie "Absorbed in Divinity". In this state everything disappears only the Being of God is remains, and then there is another state that overtakes them, its "Baqa", in which the Sufi feels that he is everything, and the there is another state called "Laqa" both existent and non existent, and that their r only 2 be

@Eleusha Rejected Islam..That is just wishful thinking on your part. Scholars of his work unanimously agree he was a sufi. His works on Muhammed show that he is better than most of us claiming to be Muslim.
"There has never been a beauty like that of a (Prophet like)
Muhammad in this world or the next. May the Glory of God help
him!"
"Since, although he is from (among) us, he doesn't resemble us. We
are entirely (like) copper, and Muhammad is (like) the (alchemical)
elixir."-Jalal ud-Din Rumi

You believe in what you believe....
But Molana says it clearly in his poems.

@ Eleusha
"I understand he didn't belong to any place or any religion,"
WHATTTTTTT ????
Your statement shows, that you don't know Maulana, he was and is one of the biggest islam sufis ever. Every poem of him tells something about his relationship to god (Allah). His name Maulana is a islamic title and meens = our master.

This is not for discussing Rumi's ethnicity, nationality. These offer nothing in the way of insight into his poetry.
All future comments referring to nationality, etc. will be deleted.
