Back on the Chain Gang

There are different ways to play this song. The chord chart I have created shows the song in its most basic format. If you want to play it the way the Pretenders do, you will need to learn it elsewhere. Privettricker's video provides a good demonstration of how to play it, or at least one way you can play it. Alternatively, if you already know how to play the song, you can ignore the chord chart and play it the way you normally do. I have highlighted some chords in blue. On these chords, you should emphasize the higher notes of the chord. You might want to just ignore these chords and continue playing the chord from the previous measure, e.g. instead of playing Bm and G, you could continue playing the Em. This would be a good approach to take if you play the song as part of a duet. One guitarist could play the Em and the other guitarist can play the Bm and G.
