From WXIA Atlanta, the 11PM News open and close from 1990, the layered close logo looks really good!

  • Does this Gannett logo still air before the newscasts?

  • In DC it airs at the end, not sure about the others.

  • Looks a lot like the KOCO open from the same era...

  • This could be because at the time, a lot of animation for Gannett stations were done in-house at Gannett Production Services in Atlanta, housed at WXIA. Similar looks were on several stations, for a number of years. The guy that did most of the looks left and now several stations have a package from Giant Octopus.

  • The set is almost identical to KARE-TV in Minneapolis, also a Gannet station.

  • John Pruitt went back to Channel 2/WSB on July 4, 1994

  • @MrFilmMakerNumber2 Still hot today!

  • @eyeontv It's also because Gannett was at the time a big customer of Atlanta-based Television by Design. Known large-scale packages exist for KOCO, KPNX (1990), WXIA, KUSA (the famous Walls and Balls package), and KARE (1996).

John Christopher Burns, another Atlanta-based designer, had left TVbD by this point (he left in 1987). His separate portfolio would later include WXIA's next major rebrand (Atlanta's News Channel).

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting. This aired on Monday, June 25, 1990.

  • sexy Kelly Morgan.

  • ...

I'm assuming this is not all the same story.

  • Nope. This Joe Washington never played football. He's been in a handful of movies, and he's on HGTV now...

  • Well it seems that it goes in order WSB #1, WAGA #2, WXIA #3, but during the early 80s WAGA #1 6pm during Pam Martin/Forest Sawyer days. NBC's hey day of popular 80s shows helped WXIA #1 at 11pm. Nielsen and Abrition ratings service back then would have a different story who was #1. WXIA was the first to have a early evening news at 530 and WAGA went 1 hour at 5pm in 88. By the 90s WXIA and WSB had 30 min 5pm news, but SB and XIA 1 hour at 6pm! Back then it was a three way tie, but not any more!
