A NEW BRAIN is composer-lyricist William Finn's moving and exuberant musical account of his real-life medical emergency and the role of heart and music in his recovery.
Wedged between Finn's multiple Tony Award-winning shows Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, and co-written by James Lapine (Into the Woods), A New Brain is a sardonic and colourful take on one man's experience with a life-threatening condition.
As composer Gordon struggles to write a song for children's TV character Mr Bungee, the disgruntled artist's wake-up call arrives in the form of a sudden collapse. In hospital, we enter Gordon's anaesthetised dreams where Mr Bungee, a cast of quirky characters, and his unfinished work haunt him. Can Gordon acquire a new lease on life without the need for a new brain?
