On Friday, Dr. Sapna Parikh shared the story of an amazing little girl suffering from a debilitating condition who has managed to beat the odds. Kaitlin Clutter, 9, has spina bifida- a birth defect that affects the spinal cord. Her story is truly amazing.

She's had countless surgeries but remains partially paralyzed from the waist down. That hasn't stopped Clutter from being a cheerleader at Ridgeway Elementary School in New Jersey or from excelling at school.

By looking at Clutter, you would never imagine that she often feels pain in her back from the tethered spinal cord; that she has high blood pressure from kidney disease or that a surgically implanted shunt drains fluid from her brain.

"My thing is never give up. If you want to do something then you find a way to do it," says Clutter

  • @Emelsu1993 I think the doctors always tell the parents the "worst case scenario". I was born with Spina Bifida 30 years ago and my parents were told that I may only live a few weeks, I may be a vegetable, and I would most likely never walk...I am now almost done with a Master's Degree and not only do I walk, but I do tons of adaptive sports...the doctors don't want to be legally responsible for saying something that might not happen, so to error on the side of caution, they give the worst.

  • um..........i have Spina Bifita at 27, and i am NOT suffering. Oh, i have cramps every now and then, but i use a wheelchair and im just fine. Suffering is not a nice word

  • Aww, isn't she adorable??:D I was born with Spina Bifida too, and the same things have happened to me. Like the docs saying I'd never walk, but I am. I'm 17 years old and loving life! God bless you all!!;)

  • This is so inspiring. I was born with Spina Bifida also and i have struggled throughout my life, but, like her, i never give up. i put my faith in God and let Him take control of my life. I'm going to share this with my Facebook friends and let them know that I'm not the only one who is going through this. Thanks for sharing.

  • I walk with a limp and I have been to doctors and my spine at the bottom is a little crooked!!! I have been made fun of since the 6th grade but I am still a normal person!! I had a seizure when I was two but idk if that was the cause! It all started after my mother passed away from breast cancer, Everyone is special and every one has something that they dont like about themselves.
