Nicolas is a friend of mine who came along on my flight from London to Boston. He shot this video and I loved the different vantage point he provided.

  • done with iMovies?

  • Yes.

  • are you an airline pilot? who do you fly for?

  • Thanks. Yes. Take a look at my blog. Google CockpitChronicles.

  • just a question Kent, i dont know if its in your blog, but how many hours u did before getting into a company, just wondering cause in my country we need 1000 hours, i think its a lot, and i v heard that in some places its like 200h. thanks and great vids!

  • Well, it depends on the airline and the economy. Less than a thousand for a commuter, flying turboprops or, in some cases RJ's. 2,000 and up for major airlines.

This is all subject to change in the U.S. with new legislation that's being proposed raising the minimum here to 1,500 hours.

  • whats the song?

  • Another great...your videos are the best!

  • Your job is so amazing! Thank you for all videos!

Its my dream, to be a pilot.

  • That's interesting, thank you for replying.

I'm just waiting for the day that the 'average' figure for a given flight is well below what is the actual weight e.g the coin convention flight - A/P had a hell of a time on that!

  • We have a load control department. They use the 190 pound figure and the actual weight of cargo and passenger checked baggage. For us, the ZFW is uploaded automatically via ACARS after we get the closeout, which is usually just as we're pushing back.

You're right, the low cost index is common when we are planned to arrive early. Good catch.

  • A Cost Index of 19..?!

You must of had some hefty tailwinds!

Or, left well before the scheduled departure time!

As a question if you don't mind Kent:

For ZFW, do you take pax weight as 190lbs..? and times by x passengers..?

  • 0:29 AIR CANADA

don't know how but was voted 2009 North American Airline of the year, wohoo!
