Projects: http://www.i-madethisforyou.blogspot.com

Music: "Brand New Colony" and "Sleeping in" by The Postal Service

Instructions:
Chain 77
Row 1: Single crochet in each chain
Row 2: Half double crochet in top of each stitch from row 1
Row 3: Single crochet in top of each stitch from row 2
Repeat rows 2-3, alternating between rows of single crochets and rows of half double crochets until you have a yard of fabric.

Fold in each side edge about 1-2 inches.
Sew the edges to create a casing.
Insert cord or rope (each rope is about 30") into each casing to create a handle.

Fold the fabric in half, sew the edges (while avoiding the casing)
Gather the fabric at the casings to create a ruched effect.
Tie two strings together to create one handle. Do the same to the other two strings to make two handles.

  • I am currently making this bag, not keeping it very even though...I am just learing this craft. Do you chain 1 at the end of any of your rows or do you just finish the stitch and flip and start another row?

  • @ceckerty I usually chain one, but I know it also works if you finish the stitch and flip over.

  • Great tutorial, very nautical, I like the idea of braiding fabric to create rope, good idea.

  • @emilyhale27 Thanks! I only thought of it cause I was too lazy to buy rope. -___-
