A solder got one of the longest shots using it a couple years ago I think, shot through a wall and killed two guys but before that he says he just took one out straight up shooting.

In England on a Army cadet field day , i was tallking to a Rifle Saergent and he was telling me that they are increasing the bullet sizes to 7mm from 5.56 for the standard rifle because 5.56 is the size they used in northen ireland it was not designed to kill
-
@Drawnsbyme It's been against the Geneva convention to use it against troops for over 20 years atleast, but you are alowed to use it to take out drivers and pilots of cars or choppers.
I have no idea if either the americans or brits use it in a anti personnel capacity, i think they stick to the M40, M24 and the L116 for that.

can sharpshooters in afghanistan get killed easily?
-
cumin to the fact most people name sniper by there false name like barret 50.cal wrong its called an m82 barret which fire 50 mm bullets aka 5 cm bullets ouch and yes they do use it in the world and the intervention false its called an m200 cheytak
-
Yes, they use .50 cal sniper rifles on people. Rob Furlong from Canada hit a mile and a half shot on a person with the McMillan Tac 50. U.S. snipers use the Barrett for the longer ranges.

@5872steve Hoorah to that :)

@Drawnsbyme Terrorism best effective form of warfare Best effective form of counter-terrorism is TERRORISM!.
-
@EricCris10sen i believe that is because of the geneva convention ,i think i read that somewere .but i could be wrong
-
@marks95911 no shit. its not enforced but it is told not to be used.
Is it true that the Barret .50 cal sniper rifle is now forbidden to shoot troops with? I've heard somewhere that the army is now only able to shoot armor and stuff like that with it...

as far as i am aware the royal marines use it . But i dont think its used in afghanistan and iraq. I think its now used for helicopters etc.

6 months for British troops a year for American troops but the Americans have by far better camps and accomedation so i guess it evens out. Its hard for the first couple of weeks but even out there you set a routine and before you know it R+R come round im not saying its easy but you adapt. Wish you all the best if you do join

Did you Americans have Ross Kemp returns to afganistan ? It did show the camps and the soilders have as low as tents which is stupid for all the work there doing.

One of them is into artillery, and the other I believe is infantry right now. I don't recall their division/regiment numbers offhand, but I hear from them once in a while. They love it out there, but at the same time they very much miss home.
