"Straight Acting" is a controversial term. In this video I talk about my frustrations that come with being "straight acting" and give encouragement to other"straight acting gay guys". Plus, why I choose to name my channel StraightActingGayGuy.

  • When you say "straight acting", you are implying that all other gay men conform to the stereotype. Thanks a lot, asshole.

  • "effeminate" gay men are enforcing the stereotype?

you see those words you just used? "straight-acting" and "gay-acting"? we call those labels. labels that you're choosing to place on your own community. your decision to use these terms is promoting the gay community to categorize themselves into one or the other. therefore you, friend, are promoting the stereotype.

  • We act straight becuz thats how they raise us. I think that liking girls n having a girlfrien is the gayes thing of all. People would bever know i like cock.

  • look who juz came out his closet

  • well your sunglasses do not look cool in the least

  • honestly I don't get why the hell so many gays get offended by the term "straight-acting" it just mean that a person prefer activities that straight people usually do, it has nothing to do with hate. If people stoped talking like there is only 1 kind of gay in this world, gay that don't conform to stereotype would not have to use it.

  • @karmalevel You miss my point. If one is straight acting, then that is not genuine. No gay man is "straight" and if one is "acting," then where is the honesty. My problem is only with the term. Masculine is a better alternative term. Also we should not berate each other with debasing terms, such as flamer. We get enough crap from homophobes without having to call other gay men who are not masculine names. As a gay man, you know the power of terms (words) to hurt or confuse.

  • @karmalevel I think you are missing the point. The term "straight acting" implies that gay, in and of itself, is wrong or makes one less than a man in comparison, whether masculine or not. I think the term masculine, alone, is a better term. You would not want to be debased or belittled, so it is not wise to put down those who are "flamers." All gay people, as a group, are belittled and attacked enough. We should not do it to ourselves. Flamer is always used as a derogatory description.

  • you rock!!!!

  • You are not alone. most gays are not the stereotype!!!

  • @b28e

categorizing is a way to economize on information and communicate. The term "straight-acting" might promote the stereotype further, but it does so merely by communicating with people based on an already-existing stereotype. I think a better term though would be "masculine" vs "effeminate"

  • @Daxt0r
