Having a perfectly good hunter course? Here's how to ruin it:

Step 1: Mess up at least 50% of your lead changes.
Step 2: Let your horse drift to the right and then have him buck when you try to correct him.

Easy!

  • Your horse wasn't bucking because you pulled him. He was counter cantering and swapped his back lead. It wasn't a buck of protest it was just swapping his back lead. Its hard to tell because of the camera but just before he kicks out you can see he is leading with his left hind and then he swaps to his right hind. good riding though, very nice seat.

  • That was a nice round... although I got dizzy watching the video with all the moving lol.

  • @Lori4Saru Hunter courses are judged on how well they are executed. Meaning you have to make it look effortless. Show jumping is about how badass you are. ie, speed, not knocking down poles, etc. Hunters are judged. Jumpers are timed. That's basically how you can describe it. Although some hunter competitions have equitation rounds in which the courses are more difficult. Jumper rounds usually have tough combos and rollbacks and such. Hunters is line, diagonal, line, diagonal.. you get it.

  • OMG your horse is the image of my new one!!!except if my horse saw those fillers she would have a fit!!!if you thought that was bad in sj in ireland no one gives a shit if your on the right lead and just getting around the course without knocking is perfection!!!!Lol x

  • @Cheezehpoof

Sorry but that is just incorrect. He wasn't counter cantering when he swapped the lead & it wasn't his "back" lead whatever that is.

  • I dont get it....whats the diffrence between a hunter course, and normal showjumping?

  • that was a pretty good ride I dont think it was bad.

  • @PokeyRider1

the horse was just doing a lead change that wasn't bucking.

  • i luv hunters thats ok we all have our days i have had mine and man there way worse than wut just happend to you.ITs ok lol horses r quite unpredictable.(at my first show ever i mest up completely and all of sudden kept getting my diagnols rong(beginner then) and my horse cantered in the walkt trot class(ugg she wasnt bad but it was really annoying to have to keep circling her

  • wel in ireland it counts, frankly I think equitation is a waste of time, have some fun ! do some speed classes live a little !

  • its not about the height of the jump, it is the riders capability. i can guarantee that your 3 y.o. nephew would have flew if that was him when the horse bucked, he probably would have been bouncing everywhere on the incorrect leads, so props for sitting those wrong leads nicely. i could barely tell, cause you sat them so well.

  • honestly you did great. i think hunters are overrated. us kids are pressured to be perfect and make our horses look perfect...and there's no fun in that. you did amazing so don't hang your head :D
