I'm trying to apply the principles for UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to the creation of mathcasts. In this case I wanted to show that it would be relatively easy for a non-verbal student who has the ability to control a mouse to use SMART Notebook software, a small set of AAC words & phrases (that speak when clicked on) and a small "tool kit" of objects (symbols, numbers) to solve a simple linear equation out loud. I recorded the mathcast using Jing* and then edited it with Camtasia Studio* (to boost the audio level). I recorded the AAC words & phrases that were spoken using an inexpensive boom microphone placed near my laptops built-in speaker.
