Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Brian Katulis accuses Brookings Institution scholar Michael O'Hanlon of "cherry picking the facts" in his recent writings on Iraq. To read Strategic Reset, the Center's plan for Iraq and the region - please visit www.AMERICANPROGRESS.org
I well remember Vietnam--"light at the end of the tunnel, just give it a little longer to work." And after the pullout named "Vietnamization," just as there was in the Munich beer halls in the '20s, and just as there will be after Iraq, there were the mutterings of "We had 'em on the ropes, and the politicians sold us out!" Some people never learn.

Michael O'Hanlon was pro Iraq war from the beginning which you can check for yourself. O'Hanlon and Pollak spent their time in Iraq with an itinerary setup by the DOD and most of the people they spoke with were not random Iraqis but those who had in essence been "pre-approved."

What are these good things happening there and how did you hear about them?

Neocon sophistry pure and simple. The noise machine feeds the airwaves. All of this is simply to dominate debate so that the spin can still be framed favorably for the criminals to get away from the crimescene.

O'Hnalon was conned. With the policy falling down around him; Bush has actually allowed some halfway decent things to happen in a limited area...and yes; some people there and our troops appreciate the smidgen of competence...but it's way too little, way too late.
Bush is just buying time, waiting for something terrible to happen on our own soil in time for the 08 elections.

Michael O'Hanlon is cherry picking the facts? The fact is that there are good things happening in Iraq - whether they are enough for us to "win" is debatable - and the mainstream media refuses to report them. They never miss a car bomb, but I wouldn't have had any idea that Ramadi was any safer at all if O'Hanlon and Pollack hadn't written about it for the New York Times, which required mainstream outlets (who worship at the altar of the Times) to acknowledge it.
