Dr. Samadi discusses study on smoking during pregnancy resulting in psychotic symptoms in children. High consumption of smoking & alcohol affects children as the umbilical cord transfers nutrients and other things to children. There is a major effect on cognitive and developmental skills so he advises pregnant women to stay away from smoking & alcohol. He discusses another study where 87% of obese patients with diabetes had sleep apnea. Obesity affects many things, and a 10% weight loss can result in better health and sleep. He advises watchers to monitor their diet and portions and exercise. Finally, Samadi discusses a study that shows a link between candy consumption and violent behavior. Bottom line is that parents need to teach lessons to kids so that they learn to defer immediate gratification, so that they do not participate in impulsive behavior.
