Waldameer Park wHaCkY sHaCk

It's creepy and it's kooky, mysterious and spooky, it's all together ooky. . . and whacky ! ! ! The Whacky Shack dark ride at Waldameer Park in Erie, Pennsylvania was built by Bill Tracy in 1970. Bill Tracy is considered a legend in the dark ride business and sadly there are very few of his attractions left. The Whacky Shack at Joyland Amusement Park in Wichita, Kansas is another Bill Tracy creation that closed along with the entire park in 2006. A fire was started inside the ride in April, 2007 and was put out by a Park employee. I believe the Joyland Whacky Shack is still standing. The Waldameer Park Whacky Shack gets my vote for my favorite dark ride. Video taken on July 1, 2008.

There use to be 100's of these great Bill Tracy darkrides in America. Now, due to all the park closing and effects of time, there are less than a handfull. Waldameer Park has the proud distinction to be able to say they have 2 (this and The Pirites Cove). If you want to see and feel what a real darkride is all about, I'd advise you to go here yourself. You won't regret it, I promise!
