Also - I watched this movie on VHS maybe 2 years after release (1983/84). Its part of that era. Its something to look back with a warm glow of nostalgia. I don't think a remake will have the same effect now with a young generation. I also don't think the movie companies care for any of our memories and sentimentality for these movies. Its now about making cash on something that's already out there, somewhere. Side point - how fucking bad was EVIL DEAD? pish poor.

There is no point in a remake. Its not Kurt Russell at the height of his powers. Its not the early 1980s. We didn't know much of special effects and our mental landscape was limited in expectations but this and many other movies 'widened and developed' our primitive cinematic imaginations. That said, we cannot re-do that now because we are no longer innocent in our cinematic imaginations. This innocence was the mechanism that embellished these types of movies somewhere in our minds - forever.

After seeing the evil dead remake, my faith in remakes being faithful to the source material and standing on their own, has been restored.

I haven't seen that one...but I have a feeling your definition of "awesome" means "had moar akshun and speshul affectz". These are not what makes a good movie. Plus you can't beat Roddy McDowall. :P

I agree that these remakes are bad to a fault, and are simply a money making ploy. Interesting that you mention Last House on the Left. While I kind of agree that the acting was better in the remake, this example actually reveals a lot about what is bad in remakes. The original may not have had as smooth acting, but that is part of what made it what it was...and it was a LOT more disturbing than the remake. The remake was flat and uninspired as far as providing what a good horror movie should.

Oh damn...so they ARE doing a remake? These remakes are just terrible...and anyone who respects the original films should boycott them. Just Hollywood trying to cash in on people's nostalgia and make easy cash with CGI garbage.

God I hope they don't try to remake this. I haven't seen a single remake of any of these 70s and 80s movies that did anything but replace quality with CGI action crap to appeal to all the braindead who think the number of explosions in a film is a good indication of it's quality.
